THE PHILADELPHIA BLACKSMITH'S GUILD
Pennsylvania became an industrial giant, largely because the steel industry grew and prospered in this state. Philadelphia itself had several steel mills. dating back to the 1700's, including Allan Wood steel and Midvale. Some of the greatest blacksmiths in American History set up shop in Philadelphia, including Samuel Yellin and the Kaiser Brothers. Modern blacksmiths like Christopher Ray carried on this rich tradition in recent years. On that note, I felt that this area would be a fertile ground to teach this craft and enjoy a collegial atmosphere among fellow-practicioners of this craft. Neophytes, desiring to learn this craft, need a place where their love of forging hot steel can be accommodated. We meet every month, at different Philadelphia area venues, where we have hands-on learning demonstrations in which lovers of blacksmithing can learn and enjoy this craft. We also have a monthly newsletter, which I shall be posting on this site.
